What is the 2LRN4 LTI integration? The LTI integration lets you offer the 2LRN4 courses inside your own learning environment (LMS). An employee clicks the link, is logged in straight away without a second password, works through the course, and the result comes back to your gradebook. The integration runs on LTI 1.3 and the LTI Advantage services built on top of it.
The nuisance of two systems
Organisations with their own learning environment already keep their onboarding modules and their professional material in there. Awareness tends to hang next to it, in a second environment with its own login and its own overview. For your people that means another password and another place to think of. For you it means putting two lists side by side before you know who still has something outstanding, and a manager who asks how his department is doing cannot be shown a single screen. The LTI integration removes that split.
What your employee notices
In your learning environment the course sits as a link among the other items. Anyone who clicks it is logged in with us straight away, without filling in a second password, and starts on the first module. If someone stops halfway because a meeting begins, they pick up where they left off next time.
The course opens in a new window rather than in a frame inside your own page. That is a deliberate choice, because a page that allows another site to frame it gives up security, and at an awareness platform that is the last thing we want.
Results back in your own gradebook
When someone completes a course, we send the result back to the gradebook of your learning environment. That happens per course, so you get one line per employee rather than a string of lines per video or per question. Whoever tracks progress on your side no longer has to log in to our platform, and you draw your annual reporting from the same source as your other training.
Licences and accounts
An employee who arrives through the integration uses the same licence seat as when they log in to us directly, so you do not pay twice for the same person. By default only people we already know come in. If you want an account to be created automatically on the first click, we switch that on at your request.
If your learning environment offers a membership list, we read it every night. The seat of someone who has left is released that way, without you having to send us a message about it.
What sits behind a link
One link holds one course. Offer five of them and five links sit in your learning environment. A menu in which the employee picks a course is on our development agenda, and our support team will tell you where that stands at the moment you need it.
It concerns courses from our own catalogue. Material you have built yourself in our platform can just as well go straight into your own learning environment.
Setting it up together
We support LTI 1.3 and the LTI Advantage services built on top of it, the standard that Moodle, Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard and Itslearning all speak. When it comes to setting it up, we do not leave you to work it out. We prepare the integration for your environment and send you the details you need. You register us in your own learning environment and send six values back. After that we walk through a test course together, so you have seen the first click yourself before your colleagues do.
Frequently asked questions about the LTI integration
Which learning environments does 2LRN4 support?
Any learning environment that supports LTI 1.3, including Moodle, Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard and Itslearning. Because the integration follows the standard rather than a single product, you can also use it in an environment that is not listed here.
What is the difference between LTI 1.3 and LTI Advantage?
LTI Advantage is not a different version but the extension that builds on LTI 1.3. LTI 1.3 handles the sign-in and the launch of the course, while the Advantage services handle sending results back to your gradebook and reading the membership list. We support both, so there is nothing for you to choose between.
Do you also support LTI 1.1?
No, we work with LTI 1.3 only. In the older LTI 1.1 both systems share a single password, and anyone holding it can forge a launch and present themselves as any learner they like. That is why 1EdTech, the organisation behind the standard, has phased LTI 1.1 out. On top of that, sending grades back is more limited in 1.1 and a membership list cannot be retrieved at all, which would remove the nightly release of licence seats. In practice this rarely comes up, because Moodle has supported LTI 1.3 since version 3.7 from 2019, and Canvas and Brightspace do as well. If you are stuck on an older installation, get in touch and we will look at it with you.
Does an employee have to log in to 2LRN4 separately?
No. Anyone who clicks the course link inside your learning environment is logged in straight away, without a second password. The integration handles the sign-in, so your people do not have to remember another set of credentials.
Do results end up in my own gradebook?
Yes. As soon as someone completes a course, we send the result back to the gradebook of your learning environment. That happens per course, so you get one line per employee rather than separate lines per video or per question.
Do I pay twice for someone who arrives through the integration?
No. An employee who arrives through the LTI integration uses the same licence seat as when they log in to us directly. If your learning environment offers a membership list, we read it every night and the seat of someone who has left is released.
Can I offer several courses behind one link?
At the moment one link holds one course, so five courses means five links in your learning environment. A menu in which the employee picks a course is on our development agenda.
Is progress kept if someone stops halfway?
Yes. The course remembers where someone stopped, also when they close the window. The next click from your learning environment takes them back to that point.
How do I request the LTI integration?
Send a message to support@2lrn4.com and mention which learning environment you use. We prepare the integration and send you the details you need in your own environment. You register us there, send six values back, and then we walk through a test course together.
Requesting it
Send a message to support@2lrn4.com and mention which learning environment you use. We will go through what your setup involves and which courses you want to start with. If you would like to see the courses first, request a demo or browse the course catalogue.
