Everything revolves around motivation. Gamification is an effective way to motivate participants in the short term. In 2LRN4, gamification consists of the leaderboard, badges, rewards and certificates.
Leaderboard
Competition works for many participants. To protect privacy and keep the atmosphere positive, users typically only see their own position in the top 10. They can see other scores, but not identities.
If you want to handle this differently, you can:
- publish results as a manager via reports (e.g., intranet or news), or
- enable Show leaderboard in the company configuration.
Manage badges
Badges reward milestones and behaviour: first activity, 5th activity, 10th activity, first webinar, first course, etc. People like collecting achievements, and badges can provide that extra push.
Customers can define badges and triggers themselves (or have them configured). Examples:
| Badge | Trigger | Parameter |
|---|---|---|
| First activity badge | Whenever activity results are saved | First time the user finishes an activity |
| High five badge | Whenever activity results are saved | Fifth time the user finishes an activity |
| Two hands badge | Whenever activity results are saved | Tenth time the user finishes an activity |
| Top activity badge | Whenever activity results are saved | Twentieth time the user finishes an activity |
| Webinar live badge | After completing a live webinar | First time the user finishes a live webinar |
| First course badge | After finishing a course | First time the user finishes a course |
| Third course badge | After finishing a course | 3rd time the user finishes a course |
| Six course badge | After finishing a course | 6th time the user finishes a course |
| Nine course badge | After finishing a course | 9th time the user finishes a course |
| Twelve course badge | After finishing a course | 12th time the user finishes a course |
Manage rewards
Rewards are more performance-focused, for example “You reached 100 points”. Customers can define triggers and rewards themselves (or have them configured).
Examples:
| Reward | Trigger | Parameter |
|---|---|---|
| 50 points reward | Whenever quiz results are saved | If total score ≥ 50 |
| 100 points reward | Whenever quiz results are saved | If total score ≥ 100 |
| 250 points reward | Whenever quiz results are saved | If total score ≥ 250 |
| 500 points reward | Whenever quiz results are saved | If total score ≥ 500 |
| 1000 points reward | Whenever quiz results are saved | If total score ≥ 1000 |
| Category X reward | Whenever a user finishes a category | Target item = category X (parameter empty) |
Note: category-based triggers can be tricky.
- Category X (Y, Z) reward: choose trigger Category completed, select target item category X, leave parameter empty.
- X points in category X reward: choose trigger Category completed, select target item category X, and set a parameter (e.g. 50) to require a minimum total score in that category.
Certificates
Certificates provide recognition for achieved knowledge. As an organisation you decide when a certificate is awarded (digital), what it looks like and what text it contains. We can also configure this for you.
